New test plug USB Micro
ENGMATEC GmbH has extended its standard program for industrial-strength test plugs. The newest plug Micro type B is also available now beside the already existing USB plugs type A, type B, mini type A and mini type B.

In future the Micro USB plug will be the European-wide basis of a standard battery charger for mobile phones. Recently, at the end of June 2009, the mobile manufacturers agreed on the introduction of a standardized charging plug. From 2010 onwards nearly all mobile phones which come onto the market are planned to correspond to the new standard. For older devices adapters are offered.
The standardisation is both for the users and for the environment of clear use. In future there won't be any need for a new battery charger with other plug and special charging cable when buying a new mobile. With the new universal plug mobile phones can simply be loaded everywhere and connected with peripheral equipment. According to the Industrial commissioner, Günter Verheugen, this standard set now for the European Union will soon get accepted world-wide.
So far more than 30 different types of power packs have still been in use. This causes an immense quantity of electronic waste and also produces unnecessary costs for the manufacturers with regard to the entire value chain. Thus the various advantages of a standard data connectivity are more than evident.
The Micro USB connection is significantly smaller than the mini USB plug that is known from conventional MP3 players and digital cameras for example.
For testing this interface the ENGMATEC GmbH has already developed an appropriate contacting plug. Like all testing-plugs from the house of ENGMATEC the plug has been designed specially for application with incircuit and function tests. As test systems often run in 3-shift operation, plug contacting units have to resist an amount of several thousand connecting cycles per day.
The USB Micro plug is manufactured from high performance plastics which guarantees an optimal abrasion resistance. Contact wires made of copper beryllium (CuBe), particularly suitable for a high number of connecting cycles, are bonded into the plug base.
The specially developed plug point enables a wear resistant contacting of the sockets and prevents a damage of the contact springs.

Complete connecting unit with pneumatic actuation and sensors for position monitoring
ENGMATEC's delivery program for connectors covers all usual sockets such as Western mini, USB and TAE. Special forms, special lengths and coded plug forms are realizable on customer's request.
