Lean production - assembly and test lines

Principle: Complete
assembly by one operative in a continuous operation - single-lean
The operative pushes an equipment carrier in front of him
on a roller belt. He carries out all assembly and testing steps himself.
The individual parts are presented on replaceable trolleys at the individual
workstations. Pre-assembly and repair workstations can be linked to the
assembly line in the form of satellites. |

Design:
The time scheduling and synchronisation (line balance) of the individual
steps must be matched to one another when the line is planned. The ergonomic
design of the workstations and the material flow are further decisive
factors for the successful implementation of such a concept.

Advantages:
- Each operative controls all the sequences in the line and also carries
these out.
- Breaks and the absence of individual operatives do not lead to the
whole line shutting down.
- No interruption to assembly at shift changes.
- The supply of material does not lead to disturbances and interruption
of the assembly process.
- The individual workstations can be expanded differently. E.g. as assembly
presses, screw driving stations, welding stations, greasing stations,
testing stations, etc.
- Flexible capacity. Quantities can be adapted to suit demand by deploying
more or fewer operatives.
- Simple line conversion. The line can be very quickly changed over
for a different type of product by the appropriate design of the equipment
carriers and workstations.
- Material can be very quickly changed on the replaceable material trolleys.
- The line can be very easily dismantled and reassembled in a new location.
- The line can be extended and expanded.
